Great clean boost
This is for raising the level of / clean boosting your mic signal before it hits your interface.Requires phantom power +48v to function.Intended for dynamic mics and ribbon mics - I’ve got a few mic boosters and like to use them on ribbons to raise the level but also to protect them from accidental exposure to phantom power - win, win!Build quality is great, very solid metal construction. Connectors are solid and a bright LED indicates when it has power.Tested it with my SM7B and found that it provides a nice clean boost, letting me get a great signal with no noise from cranking my preamp too high. And that’s with speaking at a relatively quiet conversational level.Price is fair, and at half the cost of a CloudLifter it’s very tempting. Does the job really well. No complaints; 5/5
Worked great on my Tonor Mic.
I recently got a Tonor Mic, and have been using it over the past few months. One of the issues I have noticed when using the XLR cables is how much gain I would need to use to get decent sound levels out of this mic. When I seen the Preamp I was unsure if this would help, but with more research I found out how much gain this would give me. The Audio Interface has a 48v on it, and my gain knob went from being at the 4 oclock location to the 11 oclock location now. A big difference, and I no longer need to be right on the mic to get sound out of it.Setting up the Tonor Preamp was very simple, and I was surprised by how big this is. I like that I can turn it off by turning off the 48v on my audio interface when not using it. I am very happy with the success I have already gotten out of this preamp. I do plan on upgrading my Mic to a better one, and this preamp will come in handy then as well.
Perfect for ribbons!
I’m using this with a Royer R10 and it does exactly what it should. I did do an SM7 test and got the same good result.Cheaper than a Cloudlifter (which I also own) and does the same thing.
